Rosemary cultivation in Kashmir

Rosemary is a perennial plant that can grow in almost all parts of the Kashmir valley. It is adaptable and mostly grown under dryland conditions. 
Rosemary can be grown anywhere in India, but it grows best outdoors in full sunlight. It does well in garden soil and requires good drainage and ample air circulation. It can take 6–12 months for a rosemary plant to fully mature, so it is recommended to grow it during the spring season. 

Here are some tips for growing rosemary: 
Keep it away from rain and avoid overwatering.
Provide 6–8 hours of full sunlight daily.
Use sandy, well-draining soil.
Feed rosemary regularly with a water-soluble plant food.
Water regularly, but be sure to let the soil dry out between waterings.
Rosemary extract revenue in India is expected to grow from 2022 to 2029.

Demand for rosemary extracts is also increasing in India and China as awareness of natural and clean label products grows.

can prevent oil oxidation and maintain meat flavor. The global rosemary extract market size was valued at USD 280.36 million in 2022 and is expected to expand at a CAGR of 4.33% during the forecast period, reaching USD 361.45 million by 2028. 

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is a bushy evergreen shrub that grows along the Mediterranean Sea and sub-Himalayan areas. In folk medicine, it has been used as an antispasmodic, mild analgesic, and to cure headaches, insomnia, and depression. 

Yield
The average yield of fresh rosemary plant material is 20 tons per hectare, or 8 tons per acre. The average ratio of dried to fresh material is 1:3.

Profit
After one year, an acre of rosemary can produce 1,000 kg of dried leaves, which can be sold for INR 3500 per kg. This results in a total income of in lakhs.
Time to maturity. It can take 6–12 months for a rosemary plant to fully mature.

Soil
Rosemary requires a well-drained loamy soil with a pH of 5.5 to 7.0. It also requires cool winters and mild summers below 30° C.

Sunlight

Rosemary is a hardy herb that only requires full sunlight, good drainage, and air circulation to thrive. It should be sown in sunny areas that get at least 6–8 hours of sunlight.

Uses
Rosemary has been used in folk medicine to alleviate several diseases including headache, dysmenorrhea, stomachache, epilepsy, rheumatic pain, spasms, nervous agitation, improvement of memory, hysteria, depression, as well as physical and mental fatigue.
