The loquat is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae, native to south-central China ,Pakistan and Kashmir. It is a large evergreen shrub or small tree, grown commercially for its tasty yellow fruit, and also cultivated as an ornamental plant.
The loquat is adapted to a subtropical to mild-temperate climate. In Kashmir it grows naturally at altitudes between 2,000 and 3,000 ft .
