The Growing Gold of Kashmir himalaya : Everything About Hazelnut Farming

Hazel trees in Kashmir
Hazelnut cultivation is gaining popularity in  South Kashmir, with farmers shifting towards this high-value crop due to promising market returns. While not native to Kashmir, hazelnuts thrive in the region's temperate climate, especially in high-altitude areas. Farmers in villages like Kokernag, Guridraman, and Matihandoo are increasingly planting hazelnuts, known locally as "virin," on approximately 2000 kanals of private land.

  • Growing Demand: The demand for hazelnuts is increasing, leading farmers to switch to this crop for better returns.
  • Government Support: A government-run farm in Lehenwan, Kokernag, has about 3,500 hazelnut plants, demonstrating the potential of this cultivation.
  • Local Name: Hazelnuts are locally known as "virin" in Kashmir.
  • Nutritional Value: Hazelnuts are rich in protein, healthy fats, and vitamins, making them a valuable addition to local cuisine and traditional medicine.
  • Climate Suitability: The cooler, temperate climate of Kashmir's mountainous regions is well-suited for hazelnut cultivation.
  • Planting and Harvesting: The planting season for hazelnuts is from December to April, and harvesting occurs in September.
  • Yield: Hazelnut trees typically start bearing fruit after four years.
  • Wild Trees: Wild hazelnut trees can also be found in areas like Kupwara, Kishtwar, Phalgam, Khrew, Pulwama, Shopiyan  and Baramulla.

Shilajit and Sexual Arousal: Can This Ancient Resin Boost Your Libido

Shilajit for Sexual Health: Science, Benefits, and How It Works
Shilajit is a sticky, tar-like substance found primarily in the Himalayas, formed over centuries from decomposed plant material. It’s used in Ayurvedic medicine and is considered an adaptogen with various claimed health benefits.

Shilajit has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine as a natural enhancer of sexual arousal, energy, and performance. While libido refers to sexual desire, arousal includes the physiological and psychological changes that prepare the body for sexual activity—such as increased blood flow, sensitivity, and responsiveness.

Increased Testosterone
Some small studies suggest shilajit may boost testosterone levels in men, which can positively affect libido, energy, and mood.

A 2016 study found a significant increase in total testosterone in healthy volunteers after 90 days of shilajit supplementation.

Enhanced Sexual Performance
Traditionally used as an aphrodisiac, shilajit is believed to improve stamina, erection quality, and overall sexual vitality.

Improved Sperm Quality
May help improve sperm count, motility, and quality, making it potentially useful for male fertility.

Increased Energy and Reduced Fatigue
By increasing mitochondrial function and ATP production, shilajit may reduce fatigue, indirectly supporting a healthy sex drive.

Stress Reduction
Shilajit’s adaptogenic properties may lower cortisol levels, promoting hormonal balance and sexual well-being.
